may be playing in those plans. mike massco is in for lynette. what's going on? >> we're starting out dry across the areas. certainly a cold morning, 20s in our far norlt and western suburbs and, again, we'll probably maintain that through the course of this morning. notice of winter weather advisory towards the north and west of the city, out towards carroll county and fredrick county. a wintery mix moving in during the course of the mornings and the afternoon. right now it's clear over the north of the state, but a couple hundred miles to the south and west of us. notice in about three hours we're going to start to see this batch of precipitation moving in and it will start as snow in a lot of spots. a burst of snow first, it goes over to the rain for the city as we head into the midday hour. still an ice situation toward the north and west. we'll break down the details, show you some numbers coming up in a little bit. we'll get a check on the traffic over with lauren cook. >>reporter: good morning, mike. all that wintery mix will make the roads slick. no delays in white marsh, 95,

today. here is mike masco. >>> we will do a lot of clouds this afternoon, a cool note. look at the temperatures, 27 baltimore, stevensville, easton be 1. a wind right now. making the temperatures feel like it's in to the teens in spots. manchester, one of the spots. 21 baltimore. chilly start this morning, that will give way to clouds today. if you notice on the satellite picture, a lot of broken clouds across the region. that's the deal towards the afternoon hours. temperatures around 43 degrees. it's a bitter blast as we head in to the end of the week. more coming up in a little bit. now a check on traffic early, loren cook, problems? >>> fortunately the jfx is clear heading downtown. no problems whatsoever. everything remaining up to speed on 95 through the fort mc henry, harbor going to be in great shape. on the beltway, here is a live look outside, the west side, traffic along, no problems liberty to route 40. here is parkville, harford, no problems up to towson this morning. that's a look at your time saver traffic, charlie, over to you. >>> the day is here, less than 24 hour

, it's january 1st 2013. happy new year and good morning i am charley crowson mike masco. >> it at this time me for asecond. >> 2013. >> that's amazing. >> you were up late partying. >> good evening. i mean booed morning. hoare what he -- good morning. here's what's going on. we are going to start 2013 on a chilly note and notice temperatures into the 30s throughout 43 in baltimore city. these are the dew point values. when you get the dew points into the 20s that's a dry atmosphere. there is precip with a dry atmosphere on top of us that will dry up. we are not expecting precip but clouds. notice the clouds on top of us right now. that will be the deal for most of the afternoon. 36 degrees around 8:00. 40 around lunchtime and mostly cloudy skies this afternoon with temperatures taking us up from 41 at 2 into the low 40s around 4:00. we will talk more about the weather and the seven-day forecast which has quite bitter blast. temperatures that can struggling to get out of the 30s coming up in bit. >>> 4:32. we have breaking news involving the fiscal cliff. just after midnight, the u.s. s

pretty and then thought maybe not. here's meteorologist mike masco. >> it's chilly look at the temperatures mostly into the 30s a lot of locations. you go outside the beltway and it's coming close to freezing in reisterstown and belair road to the north maybe a little ice on the roads this morning. so just be careful of that. winds have been gusty out of the northerly direction between 10 and 20. just know a pretty chilly raw feel out there. some showers working over cecil county rogue now heading upth delaware line. winds become really gusty today. 40-mile-per-hour and for that reason a high wind advisory has been posted and yes a weekend storm potential certainly growing. we're going to detail that and show you the seven day coming up in a little bit. let's get a check now of the abc2 timesaver traffic with lauren cook. >>> so take it slow this morning. be extra careful as you head out. no delays though traveling through the fort mchenry tunnel or the harbor tunnel. if you are using 695 this morning no problems to report whatsoever on the west side. here in parkville at harfo

. carroll county in westminster, they got the biggest hit as a result of this storm. meteorologist mike masco said at 8:00 they got a burst of snow. they got are couple inches on the ground and it turned to sleet. we're seeing this messy wet rain that's getting rid of the beautiful snow. so all of this creating a mess on the roadways. we have not heard of major accidents in the baltimore area, just a lot have people trying to take this slow, be cautious no major wrecks, but you want to be care f they don't think there's danger of a refreeze. they've switched with the sleet, changing over to straightup rain creating a mess that's not pretty. luckily for now not looking too ba.d as wyatt and mike have been talking about, we'll keep our eye on saturday and another impending storm that could make travel even worse. for now, i'm joce sterman reporting. >> you can track the conditions anytime at abc2news.com or download our weather app. we are not the only ones getting hit with this. we have the latest on the storm's track. >> reporter: snowplows tried to fight back in indiana today with almo

severe weather yesterday. >> what's in store? here's meteorologist mike massco. mike, it's nice to have you here in the morning. >> thank you. it's nice to be here. you know, guys, i think we'll see some snow, a little burst of snow coming in during the course of the morning. 32 at bwi right now. the atmosphere certainly moistening up a bit, northeasterly wind at just about 12. and notice temperatures across town, while we're at 35 in annapolis, down to the freezing mark in easton, it's really chilly over our northwestern suburbs. 30 in eldersburg, 29 in manchester. notice on maryland's most powerful radar, down to the south of d.c., it's starting to snow and this is what's going to be pushing toward the north during the course of the morning hours. so about an hour 50 minutes away from the baltimore metro area, and this will come in as a burst of some snow through the course of this morning. not expecting much in the way of accumulating snows, a dusting to about an inch just toward the west of 695. and then you go beyond that up towards carroll county, northern baltimore county, could

today. hope your day is off to a great start. mike masco made it in and came in from the inner harbor where the spent the entire night partying. let's look at sights and sounds from last night quickly. thousands of people gathered in the inner harbor for the wonderful fireworks show. baltimore's new year's eve spectacular was hosted by the orioles. it was the tam's way of thanking fans for all their support from the past season. as you can see a number of people braved the cold taking part in this huge celebration. mike it was cold but you had tohave a good time. >> i didn't think it was that bad. >> i mean relatively speaking. >> there's been years mr. crowson it's been 20 degrees. >> i am glad it didn't rain because you are afraid something like that is going to gum up the works. >> we came close by the way. i mean there's rain well to the southern maryland limits towards norfolkp but otherwise things look good. we are on the chilly side but it will get really cold over the next 24 to 48 hours. you notice we have got so lucky on this one. there's a storm running through roanoke that
